Brad Schwartz
Founder and Managing Partner of Strategic Law Partners, LLP
Brad Schwartz is the Founder and Managing Partner of Strategic Law Partners, LLP. He has extensive experience in corporate and securities law matters, mergers and acquisitions, and venture capital and other financing transactions having closed several hundred financing and acquisitions over his career ranging from a few million to a few billion in deal size. Brad formed Strategic Law Partners over 20 years ago with the purpose of providing the highest quality corporate legal services to emerging growth and mid-market companies at reasonable rates and has been an active participant and leader in the Los Angeles technology and emerging growth community in Los Angeles for over 20 years.
Prior to the founding of Strategic Law Partners, Brad was a partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, LLP, one of the country's leading law firms, where he spent ten years representing clients on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and corporate governance issues. Subsequent to that, Brad was the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Quarterdeck Corporation, a publicly held technology firm, where he was responsible for mergers and acquisitions and debt and equity financing, as well as advising the board of directors.
Brad has represented a wide variety of companies from early stage and venture backed companies (such as Green Dot, Riot Games, Rubicon and ReachLocal), to incubators, investors and private equity firms (such as Idealab, The Chernin Group, Carrick Capital, Aurora Capital, Endeavor Capital and Rustic Canyon/Fontis Partners) to large public and private companies (such as Warner Bros., Fox, IAC/InterActiveCorp and Ticketmaster) and has had clients financed or bought by leading venture or private equity firms including Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins, Benchmark, Bessemer, Battery Ventures, Foundry, Andreessen Horowitz, Greycroft, UpFront Ventures, Clearstone, Evercore and T.H. Lee. He has written and/or given presentations on topics such as venture capital financing, fiduciary duties to debt holders, merger transactions and stock options and other compensation plans and is currently teaching a class on start-ups and venture capital at USC Gould School of Law.
He received his JD in 1985 from the University of San Diego School of Law, where he was first in his class and an editor of the Law Review.
Brad also serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for Union Station Homeless Services, is a member of the Board of Directors of Innovate Pasadena, a trustee of the La Canada Educational Foundation Endowment, a member of La Canada's City Investment and Finance Committee and an Adjunct Professor at USC Gould School of Law.
Brad is also the founder and Managing Partner of SLP Ventures, an early stage venture fund, as well as an active angel investor.
